The end of competitive advertising on the internet?

I learned about a possible Yahoo and Google advertising merger today through twitter, and am anxiously awaiting more details. Techcrunch reported that there is supposed to be an announcement at 1:30 today (PST?) and we’ll find out more about what is actually going on after that, I’m hoping.

It seems the people in the know are keeping tight lips on this-making it all the more interesting. News searches are coming up empty and bloggers (and twitterers) are guessing as well. If a deal does evolve with these two behemoth search engines, get ready to yank out your wallet. I’ve noticed for a while (at least the last 4-6 months) Yahoo’s PPC hasn’t been performing like it used to, so I’ve scaled way back with them. I can’t see anything good coming out of an ad merger with those two. Maybe I’m short sighted.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
